PROJECT CONCEPT

Travelling Threads

Concept

This project explores textile techniques as carriers of cultural memory and migration. Across different regions, practices such as embroidery, stitching and textile repair have been passed down through generations, reflecting histories of movement, labour and identity.

By researching techniques such as Hungarian embroidery, Japanese shibori and Brazilian lace, the project investigates how textile knowledge travels across cultures and how these practices function as living archives of collective memory.

Technique
  • Stop-motion using real textiles and threads

  • Macro cinematography of stitching processes

  • 2D digital animation inspired by textile structures

  • Mixed-media composition combining fabric, embroidery and digital drawing

Platform

Experimental animated short film, with potential to expand into an installation combining physical textiles and projected animation.
